Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Have you been bitten by shiny object syndrome? Do you fuss over the finish and minor scratches on your bullion? Do you spend "quality time" with your gold or silver after purchasing it or just plunk it in your stash and forget it?
|
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Yup. My Engelhard and J/M bars get "Tarn-X'd" and "Wright's silver cream'd" before being slipped into a special felt case in my safe.

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I take all my Silver out an tarn-x it every sunday....
Just kiddin... I have polished a few before I put'em away though... |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I love my gold for weight, and my silver for ring.
|
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Coins, bars and trade rounds all get tossed in the ammo cans together.
I'm very disorganized. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I try not to do this it reminds me of Silas Marner.
But that gold buff is damn shiny, I think it glows! |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
A little quality time and smooth caresses go a long way. Sometimes when we're in the mood we play a little rough with tosses and flips. Sometimes we stack, sometimes we spread. Yeah, baby.:character :bath:

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Yes, I fondle, but only coins with queen victoria on them that are over 18 years old.
Nothing strange to see here, move along... |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Numismatist at heart - so fondling is a requirement although us coin guys like to call examination.
My favorite part is 'inventory'..... This is where you lay it all out on a countertop, rug, table, carpet, or large flat surface and add up all the OUNCES...... Write your #'s down on scratch paper and total up your $$$$$$ Disclaimer : This procedure is purely hypothetical and in a rare case that I owned any bullion - the inventory would be hidden in a dark underground cave beyond reach of any local authorities. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I don't clean anything but every now and then I break it out to have a look.

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I keep a silver coin in my pocket, and I fondle it all day long. I swear there's a silver coin in the pocket. Really, that's a coin I'm fondling.:D
But seriously, when I make a new purchase I usually keep the new merchandise out so I can examine it for a few days. Then it goes in the stash. But I always have at least a little bit of shiny metal sitting on my coffee table out on display. I don't clean my silver. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Oh, didn't know this was a poll about coins...:cool1:
Actually I keep a silver dollar in my pocket everyday too. Sentimental thing. The rest of my pitiful hoard rarely sees the light of day. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I too keep a silver (currently a SAE!) in my pocket, which makes me a fondler. But I don't really fuss over scratches, because, in the end, it's tangible stored value-bullion. The true admirers would never lay so much as an ungloved finger on a coin, let alone carry one-so I think your initial question is flawed.

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
A friend of mine carries a few gold ML at all times, makes him feel prosperous.

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Oh yes, I'm a fondler, yes, yes indeed----

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Nup-strictly business.{but they do look nice though}

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I carry around a morgan with me at times and have some quality time with the rest (2 buffalo war nickels) when the price goes up or i see a shtf article:D

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I used to carry a raw 1907 $10 gold eagle in my pocket, but I'd reach for it quite a lot to make sure it was still there, and my coworkers thought I was playing too much "pocket pool", so I don't carry that with me anymore.
|
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Fondler here. I've carried a SAE in my pocket for years.
|
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I have a gold Aussie Nugget and a half dozen ASE's that I keep purely for the purposes of "Fondling".
I love the feel and weight of the ASE's in my hand. I love the sound they make as they chink together, I love the colour and beauty of the gold nugget. Together they help keep my head clear during PM metal & stock corrections and remind me of what real money and tangible assets are. :D |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
Ah yes...
A comparable amount of cash seems almost unwieldy compared to the wealth stored in the gold. Our most common "big" bill is appx $85 in denomination. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I figure tarnish shows the silver is real so I stopped cleaning mine. I play poker with mine sometimes. Chip tricks, flipping, ect. I'm also a fan of the ring.
|
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I always keep a few in my fanny pouch.... .
When I pick up product I always keep the new stuff around for a few days, I dont have the time to polish no more. But I sure to love holding a peace dollar real tight ........ I feel like golem from LOTR. My precious...... T |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
My screen name is Metalophile. Does that answer the question? I usually carry a Morgan silver dollar with me.

That would just about answer it .:rolleyes_m: T |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I got the stash out today. I love the ring of the silver bars. And the density and weight of the gold. Can't get enough.
:s9: |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I carry a SAE everywhere I go. Usually have some other off coinage such as halves or dollar coins. Throughout the day I pat the SAE in my pocket. It's actually an experiment of sorts; I took a BU SAE and am observing the wear one receives in a pocket. So far they hold up very well but then, I don't let other loose change bash around in there with it either.
My stash is still relatively small enough that when I add to it I get to play with all the other pieces all over again. Carrying coinage and silver sometimes presents a good opportunity to make a point about currency debasement. Hand somebody a SAE and a SBA or non-silvered Eisenhower dollar and ask them which they'd prefer to have. They always pick the SAE and then you explain how the SAE has value far exceeding face while the other coin of equal face value is worth far less than face in metal content. Great conversation piece. |
Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
I only like to fondle the Au once I have it in a airtite holder! That way I can let the kids play with them to.

Re: Poll: Are you a FONDLER?
A picture fills the urge to fondle... but sometimes, I could be accused of being a "fondler".
